Cornish word order had long been a somewhat quietly contentious issue in the broader field of Celtic Linguistics. A variety of sources have claimed it to have the same base word order, verb-subject-object, as related languages in the family (Wikimedia Foundation 2023; Jenner 1904; Brown 2001) while pedagogical materials have mostly avoided the issue and focused on giving plenty of examples which upon examination contradict those claims of verb-subject-object order (Pool 1965; Wilkes & Sandercock 2006). This study seeks to provide some clarity on the issue of Cornish word order in the case of the BBC’s Radio newscast An Nowodhow by utilizing a frequency analysis of the word order of thirteen broadcast transcripts.
